Finally a project that I completed!

So after extensive pinterest research about "How to bounce your camera flash" I found a tutorial that I loved and put my own recycled spin to it.

Here is my masterpiece:

I used a Jiffy brownie box and cut it with an x-acto knife at a slant.

Then, I lined the inside with foil and taped it down.
Here are some examples of shots taken inside my house with no extra light:

With straight pop-up flash

With my "Jiffy" flash bounce
Both of these pictures are taken on the same setting, one after the other.  As you can see the pop-up flash tends to wash out the colors in the picture but by bouncing the flash on the ceiling the lighting warms up and is evenly distributed, giving the true color of the items in the photo.

Here are other before/after shots:

Notice the color difference: Before (Left) with pop-up flash and After (Right) with "Jiffy"

And for some delicious photos using my "Jiffy" flash cover...I call this dish: Knowledge is Pasta :)

Pork Ragu with Alphabet pasta and Shredded Parmesan

I'm glad I finished this project and that it actually worked!!!

Completely blessed

I've been thinking lately that despite having to live in Iowa City far away from my home and family.  I am completely blessed.  I have an amazing husband, who is always by my side no matter what.  We have a great house that we are genuinely sad to leave.  I have great jobs working with great people.  We have met great people and made lasting friendships.  And I get to travel and talk about food and eat food and take pictures and be completely ridiculous most days.  We have both had amazing opportunities given to us over the past four years and although I'm looking forward to warmer winters I enjoyed living in Iowa City.  It will be bittersweet to leave indeed.

...I'm just happy I guess.

Here's to our next journey, our future, and more memories.

New directions

This entry has nothing to do with Glee!

It's about the direction I'm going to take this blog in...

I'm going to focus on things that I am fortunate to experience in my life.  I will talk about food of course, both food that I eat when I'm out and food that I make.  I will talk about my travels and adventures.  And I will help these two points along with my photos.  I am not a professional photographer in any way but I know what I like and I know how to use my camera.

There are a lot of things coming up in my life and I will try my best document and bring you along.
