Europe or Bust!: Journey to Athens, Greece

On Monday we had to say Ciao to Roma! and Yiasas to Greece!  We had to jump on a bus at Roma Termini to Fiumicino airport for our flight on Aegean Airlines.

Here was the door to the building we stayed at in Roma.

Sunrising at Roma Termini

Our host told us about the bus shuttle that ran from Roma Termini to Fiumicino airport for only 6 euro/person instead for the Metro that is 14 euro/person.  It is called TerraVision located on the North side of Termini.  You can purchase tickets at Terra Cafe and grab a cappucino while you wait.

I thought this was funny.  You can wrap your bag in plastic wrap so no one can go through it after you check it in.  Wela and I used our bag locks.

Here are our tickets to Athens

At our gate ready to board the plane

Wela thought it was funny seeing our bags being loaded onto the planes.  Top: My brown London Fog Houndstooth bag on the belt. Bottom: Wela's black samsonite bag on the belt.

We loved flying on different airlines during this trip.  Aegean airlines is a star alliance member! Miles!

The instructions were in Greek and English.  They also passed out these Aegean airlines lemon candies.

"My dogs are tired" Wela took his shoes off.

International flights provide food!!! We had pasta, bread, cheese, chocolate cake, tea and juice.

Here we are flying over Greek Islands.  Next time, I'm going to Santorini!

We made it to Athens, Greece!!!

We hopped onto the 'X95' bus from the airport to Syntagma Square (City centre) for 5 euro each. This stop is about two blocks from where our BnB was located.  The bus ride is about an hour long since Athens is huge and the airport is in the outskirts of the city.

We made it to our BnB and were greeted by our host, Aris.  He had an accent (british?) and led us around the apartment quickly before leaving us to rest.  The apartment was very luxurious and again we were thankful for Airbnb.

Here is the bathroom.  It was very modern with a huge shower head that was like a waterfall.  The sink was a huge glass bowl.  It was nice!

The bed fit perfectly in the bedroom.  I mean perfectly, wall to wall.  The amazing part was a shield outside of the window that you could close for total darkness.

He had a sweet set up on his coffee table with a map of the immediate area and little numbered red dots with all the sights to see and restaurants to try and their proximity to the apartment.  He also had a list for the corresponding dots, menus, maps, and brochures for things around Athens.  Also, the apartment IPad which I used the whole time we were there.

We laughed at the tv a little because it looked very old in this space of modern decor.

The kitchen was also very modern and filled with Greek sweet buns, orange juice, water, coffee, and tea for our use.

The apartment was on the ground floor so we had a little outdoor terrace we could sit on.  There was another privacy shield we could lower outside of the screen door for more darkness.

The flight was smooth and we were excited to finally be in Athens.  Our BnB was comfortable and it was nice being by ourselves in the last leg of our adventure.
