Europe or Bust!: Venizia, Italia

We had a slight layover staying in Venice on our way to Rome...So of course we found a nice spot on AirBnB and it was such a beautiful place.  It was right next to a small canal with Gondola stops and the BnB itself was immaculate and very luxurious...A few things about Venice: Cars are not allowed, Everything is transported by boat (ambulance, police, construction supplies, and garbage pickup).

We woke up just in time to see this out of our window.

It's a garbage boat picking up dumpsters !!!

The kitchen with our breakfast.

We watched this man from our room prepare his gondola in the morning.

When we were ready to go on a ride a second gondola had pulled up on the right of the first man's gondola it so we rode the second one because it blocked the first.

The four windows on the second floor was the BnB. The two on the left were for our room and the two on the right was the living room. It was masks decorating them because it was the week of Carnevale but we left just before the big festival. You can also see the gondola that we were about to get on.

We are about to embark on our gondola journey. Also, it was in the low 20's so we bundled up and they provided a blanket for us. Fortunately there wasn't any wind so it wasn't that bad.

And we're off...

The buildings were very colorful.

You can see our gondolier in the back. We were cold, but excited!

Traffic jam.

I always thought they had poles, but they are really oars that they paddle with.

The famous Rialto Bridge. Our gondolier took a picture of us from the gondola.

This was our gondolier, Massimo "Max."

The front door to our BnB, decorated for Carnevale.

Venice was full of these little streets. Because cars are banned small alleys are the norm.

This woman seemed to be ready for Carnevale. Her cloak glistened in the light.

This small door (above) and big door (below) were side by side. You can see the same lamp in both pictures.

We went back to the BnB to collect our bags (above) and we heard a woman playing an accordion on a gondola as it passed below our window (below).

We hopped on the water bus to head to the train station. Tasha with the church of Santa Maria della Salute (above) and Wela with a typical Venetian coastline (below) along the Grand Canal.

On the back of this gondola is who we believe is the only female gondolier, among 400+ male gondoliers.

One last pass at the Rialto Bridge.

The yellow boat is a water bus that you take to get around Venice.
